On a VH its the Yellow and White that go to the reverse light switch and the Black wire goes to earth when the switch sees that the trans is in park or neutral.
So if you earth the black wire starter should operate.

Ok so this is how "I" would do it, there are probably a thousand different was to do it. ( did it this way for my commonwhore)

Either back energise the starter wire then test which wire is live (ignition off) or do a circuit trace with a multimeter, you will need to extend the starter wire (temporarily) with an extension wire, back in to the cab, then figure out which wire complete the circuit.

Hard part done... you know know which wire in cab connects to the starter.

Then turn ignition on, and hold the starter, while you're doing that, check to see which wire has power. Once you find one, back the key off, if you loose volts, thats your starter wire, bridge the 2 wires together, start the car, pat your-self on the back and finish off the job, i.e. solder and insulation.

P.S. By back energise, I mean run a wire from the positive terminal to the wire that would normally go on it the starter to start it.

Or you could know the wiring off by heart and do it RT6pacs way... either or really

Does it have a starter relay near the battery? Is so you need to earth one of the wires. Bottom left (closest to the battery) needs an earth, which is normaly earthed throught the inhibitor switch.
