Hi
I have fitted an aftermarket electronic distributor with a Bosch modulator,350 Holley and extractors otherwise it is stock and used as a grocery trolley. It feels flat and unresponsive, the motor is in good condition.
What should I set the timing at,the manual says 5 degrees should it be a bit more advanced.I run 98 oct fuel. Is there a thread that covers timing I have searched with no success
Cheers
Steven

5deg btdc is quoted for a standard engine in perfect condition with an original distributor and with 1970s fuel. So nowdays with the aftermarket dizzy you will probably have a different advance curve so its probably no longer the ideal initial setting. Its really a matter of trying more or less initial advance and seeing which setting will give you the best power without detonation. If it feels flat at 5btdc I'd try it at 10 and see what happens but as soon as you hear detonation get off the throttle.
